FDGA'S TOURNAMENT HISTORY 1991- 2007

The FDGA was founded by Jim Sturgeon, Frank DiVincenzo and Alex Kaschkadajev

1991

The first tournament was held at Babe Zaharias Golf Course in Tampa on May 18 and 19. Temperatures were in the low 70's and rain fell on the last day creating a cool, refreshing beginning to the tournament tradition.

1992

The Second Annual FDGA Tournament was held in Royal Palm Beach. On the days of May 15 and 16, with a slight rain and temperatures in the mid 80's, the players competed at Indian Trail Country Club.

1993

Airco Golf Course in Clearwater was the setting for the Third Annual FDGA Tournament. The weather was perfect, no rain and temperatures in the low 80's. The tournament hosted its first banquet at the club house which was enjoyed by the golfers. FDGA made the first By-Laws.

1994

The Fourth Annual FDGA Tournament took place at the beautifully designed Bardmoor Golf Course in North Largo. Held on May 20 and 21 with ideal weather conditions, the lovely trees and shrubs surrounding the course made it a pleasure to play as well as a challenge. The first woman, Sandra Tice, joined the tournament that year.

1995
The Fifth Annual FDGA Tournament was held at the Village Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach on May 24 and 25 in 87 degree weather and a very slight rain. Afterwards, many of the golfers and fans went to the Daisy Bowling Tournament nearby.

1996

Hot and humid was the theme of the Sixth Annual FDGA Tournament on May 24 and 25. With temperatures in the mid 90's and no rain, everyone played well despite the uncomfortable weather. Creekside Country Club in Pensacola was the scene of the action.

1997

Everyone gathered at Clearwater Country Club in Clearwater for the Seventh Annual FDGA Tournament. The temperature was 84 degrees with no rain on May 14 and 15. For the first time in the tournament's history, the winner was a previous FDGA champion. Alex Kaschkadajev had also won the year before, making him a champion two years running.

1998

The Eighth Annual FDGA Tournament was a three day event on May 15, 16, and 17 at River Bend Golf Club in Ormond Beach. Day one was the first scramble game which everyone enjoyed. The temperature for the three days ranged from 80 to 91 degrees with not a drop of rain any day.

1999

The Ninth Annual FDGA Tournament was an eventful one. It was held at Silver Dollar Golf Course in Odessa on May 22 and 23. The first day, play stopped at the 10th hole due to lightning and heavy rain, although the second day was an ideal one.

2000

The Tenth Annual FDGA Tournament was held at Sherman Hills Golf Course in Brookston on May 20 and 21 and had 38 entries. For the first time the committee did not use the regular handicap system but instead used a "Stroke Play/Callaway System" which caused a lot of confusion. Nevertheless everyone enjoyed a steak cookout afterwards.

2001

West Palm Beach sponsored the Eleventh tournament at the Lacuna Golf Course on May 5th and 6th. The PBCAD club hosted a wonderful lasagna dinner on Saturday night.

2002

Miami was host to the 12th Annual tournament on May 4th and 5th at the Miami Springs Golf and Country Club. Perfect weather prevailed and everyone enjoyed a sumptous buffet after each round.

2003

The LPGA International in Daytona Beach was the site of this tournament and for the first time in history the two day affair was held at two different courses making it even more challenging for most golfers. Both courses are excellent and rather difficult and along with perfect weather everyone had a great time.

2004

The 14th annual tournament was held in Orlando at the Stoneybrook Golf Club on April 23-25 and it was the first time the tournament was held in April. This was due to the difficulty in finding a golf site which had any openings for a tournement in May. The weather was hot and sunny both days.

2005

There was no tournament held in 2005 due to the FDGA hosting the SEDGA tournament in June.

2006

The 15th tournament was held at Tarpon Woods Country Club in Palm Harbor with 30 golfers teeing off May 6 and 7 under beautiful sunny skies. Temperatures hovered around the low 90's but occasional breezes made it bearable. The occasion was also used to pay tribute to one of FDGA's founders, Frank DiVincenzo, and the committee did a wonderful job making this tournament and ceremony a most memorable event for all to remember.

2007

Royal Tee Golf and Country Club in Cape Coral was the site of the 16th tournament. 23 golfers teeing off May 5 and 6. The host committee had backed out at the last minute so the officers along with the help of John Kaleta took over and the tournament continued without a hitch. Beautiful weather with temperature in the low 90's prevailed.
